Is the Government working?

Is our government working?

State and local government fed up with government:

Local government is fed up with the Federal Government. Plaquesmines Parish President Billy Nungesser is the only one on the news with any common sense. He was trying to build a sand barrier to stop the flow of oil and the federal government was stopping the project due to sediment. The federal government is unable to solve any problems today.
In Arizona the U.S. Government is suing the state of Arizona for passing laws dealing with immigration. The state of Arizona apparently has passed these laws because the federal government is dealing with immigration. Most likely Arizona will loose because the Federal Government is responsible for immigration.

The Government derives it powers from the consent of the governed:

In ready the Declaration of Independence over the 4th of July there are some important provisions. The following paragraph is taken from the Declaration of Independence:
Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Today, the federal government does realize it should derive its powers from the consent of the governed.

It is influenced by large companies and corporate lobbyists. If you look at who benefits from big government it has been the drug companies, the defense contractors, the health insurance companies, the oil companies, the lawyers, and the lobbyists.

The Government is not listening to the American Public

Over the last ten years, the federal government has passed health care legislation even though the American public did not really want health care passed.
We have continued to fight a war in Afghanistan even though most Americans do not want a war in Afghanistan. We have continued to fight a war in Afghanistan even though the American people did not want it. The Government has bailed out large Wall Street banks against the American people’s wishes. These walls street banks have paid out large bonuses to top executives even though they would have gone bankrupt. We have gone to war in Iraq based on false intelligence. Despite being warned of an attack using planes to fly into buildings, our government failed to stop 911. We have continued to watch the U.S. Government do very little to force a foreign company to stop an oil slick destroy our beaches and ruin the South’s economy.

Is the US Government ignoring the Constitution?

Our government seems to be ignoring the Constitution. We are continuing in two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan despite there being no Declaration of War by Congress as required by Article I Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution. These wars appear to have no end in sight. Clause 12 of Section 8 in Article I gives Congress the power, “[t]o raise and support Armies, but no Apportion of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;” The Government has seemed to ignore this clause. In, addition, the Constitution does not provide for the Government to have the Federal Reserve, bank bailouts, to indefinitely hold prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, or survey lance of emails and cell phones conversations of U.S. citizens. Despite no authorization in our founding document the government continues against the wishes of the American public and even the wishes of Congress.

Conclusion

The government has forgotten that it derives its power from the governed. Most citizens today can only vote. Some have even lost their rights to vote. If you do more, then you may end up on some watch list or no fly list. Over the last ten years our individual freedoms have suffered. Thomas Jefferson in speaking about freedom once said that eternal vigilance in the price of liberty. I think we have not been vigilant over that last ten years and have lost certain liberties in the interest of security.
