Should the US go back to the Moon?

Should the U.S. go back to the moon?

It has been over 30 years since the U.S. went to the Moon. Since that time the U.S. space program has concentrated on the Shuttle and low orbit flights.
The Shuttle is about to be retired leaving the US with no way to go to space station. After the shuttle is retired, apparently, the U.S. will be using Russian rockets to go to space station and orbit. Is this a good idea? What if there is a problem that needs a shuttle?

Some are questioning whether it would be a waste of resources and time to return to the Moon. It would make more sense just to go to Mars since we have already been to Moon. What if something happens? Some have even alleged we never went to Moon so we are going now. It would make sense if you have never been there. I don’t know. Mars is a long way away. Why don’t we do an international mission to moon or Mars instead of having the US pay for the trip? It would be a good idea to establish a base on Mars since it appears that mankind is good at harming the earth as evidenced by our inability to contain the spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It would also promote science and math in the United States. Maybe a future student will figure out how to stop the oil spill. This would be beneficial to the country.

Politically, the US has so many other things costing too much money such as bank bailouts, healthcare reform, and now probably the Gulf oil clean up. I would have like the money to go to NASA instead of bailing out some banks and providing bonuses for Wall Street banks. What do I know I am only a concerned citizen. You can take a poll at the bottom of this page or read more about the issue at this website:
